Baptista Wines is a small family owned wine producer, with limited production of hand made wines grown and made by David Traeger, who has been making wines in this part of Victoria for over 30 years.
Baptista is an iconic old vine Shiraz produced from vines planted in 1891 at Graytown, between Nagambie and Heathcote in Central Victoria.
These old but deep rooted vines have been producing exceptional grapes for 122 years, and the wines reflect the intensity expected from old vines.
The Three Centuries label recognises the place that ancient vines have in winemaking in Australia. This wine is a blend of Shiraz from low yielding vineyards in the Heathcote Region that have their origin in three centuries, a component from this 19th century vineyard, through to vineyards planted in the 20th and now 21st centuries.
Each vineyard component has its own distinct flavours and as they are of varying ages these differences add complexity and character.
The Maranoa brand has only one wine under its banner - being Verdelho, the white variety originating in Portugal, and is one of the classic grape varieties in the making of Madiera.
It has been planted in Australia since the very early 1800's and is nowadays made primarily as a dry white. Verdelho as a variety ripens early and shows fantastic tropical fruit characters, as well as peach, lemongrass and guava aromas, flowing through to palates of mouth filling intensity and long length.
Baptista's cellar is located in picturesque Nagambie and as you descend into the original building, built in 1872 as a winery you are entering a wonderful Australian cellar, and it is the ideal area for tasting wines.
